 Outreach & Technology Transfer
2nd Annual Truck Size & Weight Forum
In June 2019, C2SMART held the Second Annual Truck Size & Weight Stakeholder Forum at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. The forum, organized and led by researchers from the RIME Lab at Rutgers and INTER- CEP at NYU, built on the 2018 forum and convened more than 50 stakeholders representing Federal, State and local transportation agencies, as well as the truck- ing industry and academia.
The overall objective of the forum was to discuss
new policies and strategies to minimize the impact of overweight trucks on infrastructure. Five focus areas were addressed through expert presentations and discussion sessions: pavement, bridges, freight, safety and enforcement. Key areas for potential collabora- tion between the public and private sectors and new research directions were also identified during the one- day forum.
  TransportationCamp
C2SMART served as the host for TransportationCamp 2018, an annual “unconference” that brings together
a wide variety of working professionals, students
and others interested in the intersection of urban transportation and technology. Held on the NYU Tandon campus in October 2018, the event had more than 200 attendees, with 23 students from NYU’s
ITE chapter volunteering to help run the event and participating in sessions throughout the day.
In this all-day event, all attendees have the opportunity to shape the discussion by proposing topics and posing questions, giving students a valuable opportunity to contribute to ongoing conversations about urban transportation issues in NYC. TransportationCamp 2018 also featured a talk by Andy Byford, president of the New York City Transit Authority, on his plans for modernizing the city’s subway and bus systems.
