COVID-19 Travel Survey
An online survey focusing on travel trends under the impact of COVID-19 was administered from July to October 2020, after approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The objective of the survey is to look at how different disadvantaged population groups, especially people with disabilities and low-income households, were affected by the changes as a result of COVID19. A total number of 2022 of responses were collected national wide. 1121 completed responses were received from residents from the five boroughs of New York City (NYC) with 45% respondents identified as living with a disability and 23% live in a low-income household (earning less than $50,000/year). At a time when certain mobility practices and challenges have become part of our new daily routines, the survey data will help understand what the real needs for disadvantaged population groups are, in the event of a pandemic. This, in turn, will aid the cities and transportation agencies in assessing a more equitable planning process to address their short-term and long-term trip needs.
