SUMMARY:Seminar: Vulnerability and Resilience of Traffic Networks: Concepts\, approaches\, and recent developments
DESCRIPTION:Resilience and vulnerability are two fundamental concepts when dealing with disruptions. Vulnerability is the snapshot of our system in worst-case situations. Resilience captures the total system’s behavior over time (i. e.\, disruption\, reaction\, recovery). With increasing pressure on our traffic systems both concepts are becoming more relevant to operators and infrastructure managers. Increasing demands drive high network utilizations\, whilst aging infrastructure\, extreme weather\, and other disruptive events drive increasing numbers of disruptions; forcing operators and managers to deal with disruptions on a regular basis. To address this issue\, we need to assess the disruption-preparedness of our systems and find ways to anticipate disruptions during planning and actual operations. Thus\, in this talk we will discuss different approaches for disruption management\, vulnerability assessment\, and network resilience. \nPresented by Christopher Szymula\, Chair of Railway Operations\, University of Dresden
