SUMMARY:BRP Webinar: Crashworthiness Analysis\, Simulation\, and Model Validation of Roadway and Bridge Hardware
DESCRIPTION:Authors/Presenters: Wassim Nasreddine\, Chuck Plaxico\, Hani Nassif\, Chaekuk Na\, Frank DarConte\, Ali Atahan\, and Kaan Ozbay\n \nAbstract: This webinar will present the process for validating roadway and highway hardware prior to implementation. Following NCHRP Report 350\, AASHTO MASH has become the standardized guideline for certifying hardware at different test levels. This process involves numerical simulation and structural analysis to assess energy absorption\, occupant risk\, and structural integrity of various hardware systems\, followed by crashworthiness evaluation. The webinar will also highlight practical applications\, key design considerations\, and lessons learned to support the development of safer and more reliable transportation infrastructure.

SUMMARY:BRP Webinar: Use of GFRP Rebar and Nonmetallic Reinforcement for Extending Service Life of Bridges
DESCRIPTION:This webinar highlights innovative\, state of the art practices for eliminating corrosion in both existing and newly constructed bridge decks. The presentation explores the use of non-metallic reinforcement systems\, including Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars and Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) post tensioning tendons\, as durable alternatives to conventional steel reinforcement in bridge deck construction. Participants will be introduced to the technology\, current design and construction practices\, and applications where these materials provide the greatest benefit. \nThe webinar also reviews current research and Life Cycle Cost Analyses (LCCA) that evaluate the long-term economic and performance advantages of non-metallic reinforcement. Particular emphasis is placed on the relevance of these technologies for New Jersey\, where extensive use of deicing salts and a large inventory of corrosion-prone coastal infrastructure create significant durability challenges. Case studies and research findings will demonstrate how GFRP and CFRP reinforcement can extend bridge service life\, reduce maintenance requirements\, lower life- cycle costs\, and enhance the long-term resilience and sustainability of bridge infrastructure.
