On Friday, September 25, C2SMART Center at NYU Tandon School of Engineering co-hosted the AI Applications in Urban Transportation Management Symposium with New York City Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, and University Transportation Research Center. The daylong event, hosted at NYU Tandon, was designed to convene industry professionals, public agencies, researchers, and roadway users for a symposium focused on the future deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in urban transportation management.

The day began with introductory remarks delivered by Monty Dean, Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Operations at NYC DOT, as well as a welcome from organizing committee members Arthur T. O’Connor, U.S. Department of Transportation, Kaan Ozbay, C2SMART/NYU, Camille Kamga, CCNY/UTRC, and Mohamad Talas, NYC DOT.
Four panels featuring distinguished speakers from industry and agencies spoke on topics such as AI and Digital Infrastructure Policy and Strategy, Emerging Technologies, Infrastructure Deployment Opportunities, and Research and Innovation in AI and Transportation.
A Fireside Chat featuring industry and thought leaders synthesized all of the topics and discussed their immediate implications on transportation. The presentations focused on both the present realities of the industry as well as exploring the various ways in which AI could propel urban transportation management into the future.
Thank you to all of the participants, attendees, and sponsors for your perspectives and engagement. We look forward to building on the ideas and connections forged throughout the day.
