Student Learning Hub: Built by Students, Driven by Engineering: Inside NYU Motorsports

October 23 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

NYU Motorsports is a student-run engineering organization that designs, builds, and races vehicles in two SAE competition series: Baja and Formula Electric. We turn coursework into hardware, with students leading every stage from CAD and simulation through fabrication, testing, and competition.

This talk opens with a brief introduction to the organization on who we are, what sets us apart from other undergraduate programs, and how a team of undergraduates sustains a multi-vehicle racing program. The session then dives into a technical overview of our Baja off-road vehicle and the Formula Electric’s car’s mechanical and electrical systems, with an emphasis on student-led fabrication and the tradeoffs behind our design decisions. We then cover how the team operates, how the team is facilitated fiscally through operations, and overall management, and lessons learned leading a volunteer technical team. The session closes with information for students interested in joining, followed by Q&A.
