The Equitable Commute Project (ECP), on which C2SMART is a core partner, has been selected as one of six finalists in NYSERDA’s Electric Mobility Challenge. As a finalist, the ECP is eligible to win one of three $7 million awards to help low-income essential workers in transit deserts commute and travel throughout the city.
Senator Brian Kavanagh and Assembly member Jo Anne Simon announced that their BQE Overweight Truck bill (S2740B/A2316) was signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul. The new law authorizes a pilot program along I-278 in Brooklyn allowing for the installation of state-of-the-art, weigh-in-motion technology to issue violations electronically when trucks exceed the existing legal weight limits.
C2SMART presentations at TRB 2022 include guidance for successful academic careers, understanding transport challenges to help advance equitable transportation for disadvantaged populations, 3D structural information sensing systems, bus-based hurricane evacuation modeling, and more.
2021 was a year of resilience and adaptation: the world has not returned to old normality, but instead generated the new systems, processes, and infrastructures required to build a new normal. C2SMART’s work has reflected these changes, as we sought to refocus on themes which the chaos of 2020 threw into stark relief: the continued effects of the pandemic, responding to weather crises, strengthening our aging infrastructure, optimizing rollout of innovations for inclusivity, and re-investment in disadvantaged communities.

Application season is upon us! As students decide what to study, and why, we want to provide the opportunity to learn about the many forms that a career in transportation can take, from “traditional” engineering jobs to cutting-edge technology development and roles in policy and urban planning.
As C2SMART heads into its sixth year of projects, we are reshaping our RFP process to solicit a project slate which will be bigger and bolder than ever before. We are looking for projects which showcase possibility, addresses complex challenges, broadens collaboration, and directly strengthens the transportation field. This includes research and development projects, student-led initiatives, and non-traditional research in the form of workshops and workforce development.
The Departments of Civil and Urban Engineering (CUE) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invite applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, to start on September 1, 2022.
C2SMART Center has been awarded an additional year of funding worth $1.4 million by the US Department of Transportation (USDOT), extending C2SMART’s Tier 1 University Transportation Center (UTC) designation to September 2023.
The FloodSense alert system generates emails and telegram messages at the detection of a flood that exceeds 5 inches, and there are early indications that these warnings were received prior to warnings from other city detection systems.
